Nuts, as one of the most basic mechanical fasteners, are used in conjunction with bolts and screws to connect two or more parts together through the locking force of their threads. They come in a wide variety of types, selected according to the requirements of strength, anti-loosening properties, corrosion resistance, and assembly efficiency under different working conditions.

 

Carbon steel nuts are mainly made of low-carbon steel (such as A3, Q235) and medium-carbon steel (such as No. 35, No. 45). High-grade bolts may use alloy steel (such as 40Cr). They are low in cost and have a wide strength range. Surface treatment is usually required to improve rust resistance and aesthetics, such as galvanizing (blue-white/color zinc), blackening, and phosphating. They are suitable for most general machinery, steel structures, and equipment assembly applications where strength and corrosion resistance requirements are not stringent. They are the most mainstream nuts in industry.

Stainless steel nuts are mainly made of austenitic stainless steel (such as 304, 316) and martensitic stainless steel (such as 410). 304 (A2): General purpose, good resistance to atmospheric corrosion. 316 (A4): Contains molybdenum, providing stronger resistance to chemical corrosion (especially chloride ions), suitable for marine and chemical environments. Advantages include excellent corrosion resistance and aesthetics, but the cost is higher than carbon steel. The 304/316 series has relatively low hardness, so care must be taken to prevent loosening. Mainly used in food machinery, medical devices, chemical equipment, shipbuilding, outdoor decoration, and other applications requiring high hygiene and rust prevention.

Brass nuts, a copper-zinc alloy, commonly available in grades such as H62 and H65. They are characterized by good corrosion resistance, excellent electrical and thermal conductivity, non-magnetic properties, an attractive appearance (gold color), and low spark generation. They are frequently used in electrical terminals, conductive connections, water pipe valves, marine equipment, and applications requiring explosion-proof (spark-free) applications.

 

Aluminum alloy nuts, such as those made of 6061 and 7075 aluminum alloys. This material is extremely lightweight, possesses a certain strength, and is resistant to atmospheric corrosion, but has relatively low hardness and shear strength. They are used in aerospace, racing, outdoor equipment, and lightweight structures—fields where weight is critical.
